4 min readAbigail was beside Ayla when she was diagnosed with BCOR-ITD sarcoma at six months old. She watched her baby endure intensive chemotherapy in 2024 and reach remission.
In March 2026, another tumour was found and removed. Tests found active cancer cells, and the recommended proton radiotherapy meant taking her little girl overseas.
01 · Lee Heard Their Story
Ayla needed proton radiotherapy that was not available locally. Reaching the treatment her doctors recommended meant Abigail had to move their lives overseas for more than two months while carrying the cost of travel, accommodation, daily life and medical care.
Lee met Abigail and Ayla in Sydney and listened to what their family was facing. They did not need to carry the next part of the journey unseen.
