Just in Time: Saving Rohan’s Leg, and His Hope Just in Time: Saving Rohan’s Leg, and His Hope

In the heart of India, the Butterfly Effect team was in full swing.

We had our scouts out, roaming the streets, scanning for anyone in need  five bikes, five riders, and five open hearts, looking to answer the silent cries that too often go unheard.

And then, the call came in.

There was a man alone, immobile, and in pain  lying beside a plastic dump on the edge of the city.

🚨 The Rescue

We jumped into action immediately. Upon arriving at the site, we found him. His name was Rohan, and his situation was dire. He was lying on a sheet of crumpled plastic, propped against a ledge, with nothing but the clothes on his back.

His leg was badly swollen, wrapped in old rags, and had a deep, open wound that was clearly infected.

At first, he was hesitant to let us help - withdrawn, scared, and clearly beaten down by life.

His eyes told the story: he had given up.

❤️ A Glimmer of Hope

But we knelt beside him. We introduced ourselves, explained who we were, and slowly, gently, invited him to accept a little love. And with a slight nod… he agreed.

We lifted him off the street, cleaned him, cut his hair, gave him a proper shave. Then we fed him, gave him water, and tended to his emotional state. And once we had stabilized him enough, we called an ambulance.

🏥 The Hospital

When we arrived at the hospital, the doctors were visibly shocked. The wound was far worse than we’d thought  the infection had spread through the leg, climbing up to his thigh and down into his calf. The doctor told us that if we had waited just a few more days, Rohan’s leg would have had to be amputated.

Rohan shared his story: one night while sleeping on the street, a tuk-tuk had accidentally driven over his leg. His left leg was broken. With no access to medical care, it had started to heal in a twisted, unnatural way. Worse still, the initial cut from the accident had turned into an open wound, festering in the heat and dirt becoming a breeding ground for bacteria.

He had no painkillers. No food. No one.

But this time, help had come.

💊 A Second Chance

We covered the hospital fees. We bought all of his antibiotics and pain meds. The hospital cleaned the wound deeply, flushed it with iodine, removed infected tissue, and bandaged it up. They created a full tablet plan for his internal and external infection  and we made sure he would be able to come back and keep getting the medication he needed.

While nothing could be done for the leg’s old fracture  it had already fused in the wrong position  we were able to buy Rohan a wheelchair, and we gifted him enough food and financial support to sustain him for the next few months.

We found him just in time.

The doctor said it himself: had we been even a few days later, his leg would have been gone. And in India, you see this far too often amputations due to untreated infections, poor sanitation, and no access to healthcare.

Rohan’s life could have ended or been changed forever  but instead, he got a second chance.
